How it works

Three steps to your first lesson

No more guessing from a flyer at the library. See real teachers, real work, real reviews.

1

Browse teachers

Filter by medium, your child's age, and location — home, studio, or online. Every profile shows a real portfolio, not just a résumé.

2

Book a lesson

Pick a time and book a one-on-one session at one clear, upfront price — like tuition, with no haggling. Add a sibling or friend to split the cost.

3

Watch them grow

Your teacher tracks progress and shares the work your child makes — building toward a piece for the Annual, lesson after lesson.

The Palette & Smock Art Annual

Every lesson builds toward something real.

Once a year, the whole community comes together for a gallery festival celebrating the art our kids made — and every student has a wall. Lessons aren't just lessons; they're the road to the show.

Questions parents ask

How do you keep my child safe?

Every teacher passes a criminal background check and identity verification before they can take a booking. You message safely in-app, your contact details stay private until you confirm, and we recommend a parent or guardian is present or nearby for in-home lessons with younger children.

Where do lessons happen?

Whatever works for you — the teacher can come to your home, you can go to their studio, or you can meet online over video. Each teacher lists which options they offer, and you filter by what fits your family.

How does scheduling work — and what about holidays?

You and your teacher pick lesson times that fit both your schedules — usually a regular weekly slot, easy to move when life happens. There's no rigid timetable, so holidays, school breaks, and snow days are simply rescheduled. Your term is always a full count of lessons (12 in Fall, 12 in Spring), never shortchanged by a closure.

How much do lessons cost?

Palette & Smock sets clear, consistent pricing — think tuition, not haggling — so you always know the cost up front. Lessons run in two terms a year (Fall and Spring), and you enroll one term at a time — never a whole year. Pay the term upfront, monthly, or one lesson at a time. Splitting a session with a sibling or friend lowers the per-child cost. See full pricing →

Are the teachers employed by Palette & Smock?

We're a school, not a directory. Teachers join our vetted faculty and keep full flexibility over their schedule and the students they take, while we handle pricing, booking, payments, and safety. It means a consistent, accountable experience for your family — and a teacher who's genuinely supported.

What ages do you serve?

Palette & Smock is built specifically for kids and teens, roughly ages 4 to 17. Teachers note the age ranges they specialize in.

What is the Palette & Smock Art Annual?

It's our yearly gallery festival. Throughout the year, your child works with their teacher toward a piece of art — and once a year the whole community gathers to celebrate it, with a wall for every young artist. It gives kids a real goal to build toward and a moment to be proud of. Learn more →
